The President of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Øyvind Østerud (picture), will announce the winner of the 2011 Abel Prize at the Academy in Oslo on the 23rd of March at 12:00 (11 am GMT). The announcement can be viewed as a live web cast at http://www.abelprisen.no/en/. The Abel Laureate will receive the prize from His Majesty King Harald at an award ceremony in Oslo on 24 May.
After the official announcement the chair of the Abel committee, Ragni Piene, will state the reasons for the awarding of the prize. This will be followed by a popular science presentation about the prize winner's work by Timothy Gowers from Cambridge University.
